In the 1980’s, SPI played a prominent role in establishing the Downtown Orlando Historic Preservation District. SPI acquired and renovated several historic landmark buildings including: The First National Bank Building; The Metcalf Building, and The Kress Building, considered an architectural landmark and icon of art-deco design. SPI’s restorations of these and other buildings all received National Historic Register Designation and numerous awards, which contributed to the revitalization of Downtown Orlando.
